To meet the payroll team and to talk about the vacancy of Payroll Officer we visited the head office of Suitsupply in Amsterdam last week. We had an interview with the Team Lead Payroll, Rafael Ortega; a passionate payroll specialist who especially enjoys the open culture, the inspiring environment and the sense of style at Suitsupply. He gave us an insight in the atmosphere, the payroll team and told us about the vacancy at Suitsupply.
Can you introduce yourself?
Rafael: "My name is Rafael Ortega, I’m originally from Spain and I always had the desire to live and work abroad, learn and experience different cultures. After living 8 years in the Netherlands, I can say I’m living in one of the most vibrant and interesting countries in Europe. Coming to the Netherlands has been one of the best decisions in my life. I had the opportunity to develop personally and professionally.
I started a family and I have been working in Payroll since then. It has been an exciting journey, meeting people from different cultures, while growing in different roles and as you can imagine, it paved the way to my current role at Suitsupply. As of August 2020 I will be working already two years as the Team lead of Payroll operations."
Can you describe what’s typically Suitsupply?
Payroll is a multicultural team formed by three members (Dutch, Greek and Spanish). We are service-oriented and working closely with the stores, HR, and the Finance department. We are a team of great fighters, helping each other to meet payroll deadlines when there are unexpected events, especially during COVID-times.

Can you describe the Suitsupply office?
Light and modern, most of the rooms have a glass wall, what gives a sense of open space. Coffee and tea are available on every floor. And we are excited to move to a brand new office at the Amsterdam Zuidas.
What do you like the most about your role as Team lead Payroll at Suitsupply?
The open atmosphere and the freedom to communicate in all different levels within the organization.
What does the role of the new Payroll Administrator at Suitsupply look like?
Ensuring an accurate and timely payroll, being responsible for data validation and resolving discrepancies within tight deadlines. As a Payroll Administrator you’re working closely together with HR driving process improvements, you’re answering payroll specific queries from employees and supporting finance teams with month-end close and reporting activities.

What kind of challenges lie ahead for the new Payroll Administrator at Suitsupply?
The right candidate for this position will be an individual who has a natural intellectual curiosity, strong analytical skills, flexibility, and the desire to drive process improvements. In this role you’re managing the payroll for multiple entities in 3 countries but you’re mainly responsible for the Dutch payroll.
